About Malta:
Malta was incorporated in 1909 and as legend has it, was named by spinning a globe and pointing to the Island of Malta. The surrounding area includes prime hunting for antelope, elk, deer, and birds and multiple fishing opportunities on the nearby lakes and rivers. For viewing enthusiasts, Bowdoin is a spectacular national wildlife refuge with an opportunity to see 263 species of birds, over 26 species of mammals, and several species of amphibians. The Charles M Russell National Wildlife Refuge is the second largest wildlife refuge in the contiguous US and is approx. 1.1 million acres. It harbors elk, bighorn sheep, antelope, deer, and prairie dog towns. There are also about 200 species of birds in the area. Medicine Lake National Wildlife Refuge just south of Plentywood is a gem and summer home to more than 100,000 migratory waterfowl. For the more adventurous there is the UL Bend National Wildlife Refuge, which is located about 50 miles south of Malta. The roads to this refuge are rough and can be impassable in wet weather.
The Malta area also hosts the Phillips County Museum and the Great Plains Dinosaur Museum. Other activities include the annual county fair, car show, races, rodeos and so much more. If you are thinking of visiting Malta, please consider staying at the Malta Edgewater Inn and RV park and enjoy the friendly atmosphere and our pool and hot tub.
“We were on the road to North Dakota, and stopped in a small town called Malta, Montana. We stayed at a motel called the Edgewater Inn and RV Park. The park is small, but we had no problems getting our rig in. The folks that own the place are very nice and easy to work with. So if you are in that area and need a place to stay stop in!”
